The ninth round of the Winner Basket League continues at this time as the newcomer, Elitzur Kiryat Ata, plays against the leader of the table, Hapoel Galil Oliion. Hapoel Haifa beat Gilboa/Galil 80:82 at the end of a dramatic game.
Hapoel Haifa – Hapoel Gilboa/Galil
In a direct battle for a place in the quarterfinals of the State Cup, the Reds from Carmel achieved a fourth victory in a row in all the frames, while the Magen Ner team was unable to stop its losing streak, which now stands at five. Sharon Drucker’s team recorded their first home win of the season.
The host started the game in a better way, when a 0:12 run led by Sean Jones caused Rami Hadar to call a timeout. Peyton Willis left Gilboa in business and a basket by Shawn Jones set it up, 17:26 for Hapoel Haifa at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was marked by runs, Hickey led the host’s run, but two consecutive dunks by Rashard Odomus completed Gilboa’s 0:9 run and determined the halftime result, 37:39 for Hapoel Haifa.
Both teams struggled to find the ring at the start of the second half. Weiss with seven points and Hickey with an assist in Ein Akuma excited the crowd in Rome, Frantz and Odoms kept Gilboa busy. Kadeem Allen woke up and scored six consecutive points, but Justin Gorham woke up and prevented the Haifa’s from escaping, only 54:59 to Hapoel Haifa at the end of the third quarter.
Drucker’s group came up sharper in the last quarter and a three-pointer by Hickey increased the difference to double digits, Gilboa responded with a 0:7 run when a three-pointer by Frantz reduced the difference to only three. The two teams exchanged baskets and Odoms buried a three that reduced the difference to only one point two minutes before the end of the game. Spencer Weiss with a 3-pointer of his own increased the lead to four, but Frantz responded with a basket and a foul. Six seconds to the end, with a point lead, Amit Simhon was sent to the line and scored one of the two. Frantz still managed to get a good shot that could have sent the game to overtime, but he missed the buzzer, 80:82 for Hapoel Haifa at the end.
Elizur Kiryat Ata – Hapoel Galil Ilion
The newcomer wants to escape from the dangerous area and hosts the leader of the table, who counts five consecutive losses in all frameworks. Sharon Abrahami’s team lost only once at home this season, while Barak Peleg’s team has yet to record an away win and, as mentioned, is deep at the bottom with six losses compared to two wins.
Jabota Redik and Kerem Mash’or started the game well, but the newcomer could not escape, 15:18 to Kiryat Ata at the end of the first quarter. Itai Moshkovitz started the second quarter well when his basket gave Galil Oliion the first lead of the game. Michael Brisker warmed up and scored two three-pointers, 39:44 for Galil going down to the break.
Two three-pointers by Kiryat Ata at the beginning of the second half turned the advantage. Itai Moskovitz and Jaylen Hudson kept the guest busy and prevented the newcomer from escaping.
