He eclipse solara phenomenon that captures the attention of astronomers and amateurs alike, is a unique opportunity to understand how celestial bodies interact in our solar system.
This Monday, April 8, you can enjoy a celestial spectacle that will amaze observers from all over Mexico: a solar eclipse. This phenomenon, which occurs when the Moon comes between the Earth and the Sun, will be visible in various parts of the country, with different degrees of solar occultation.
According to the UNAM Institute of Geophysics, the Sun will be 79 percent hidden in Mexico City, while in places like Mazatlán, Durango, Torreón, Monclova and Piedras Negras you can experience total darkness for almost 4 minutes and a half.
The alignment between the Sun, the Moon and the Earth is crucial for this event to occur, explained the researcher at the UNAM Institute of Astronomy, Aldo Armando Rodríguez Puebla.
The trajectory of the Great Mexican Eclipse 2024
• On April 8 it will enter at 09:51 (local time) through the city of Mazatlán, Sinaloa; will go up through Durango; Torreón, Cuatrociéngas, Monclova and Piedras Negras, Coahuila. It will continue its journey to the United States and Canada.
• The duration of the total phase of the eclipse in Mexico will be 4.2 minutes.
• The width of the shadow that will advance covers 200 kilometers
• In Mazatlán its peak will be at 11:09 and will end at 12:32 (local time).
• In Mexico City it will begin at 10:55 (Central Time), reaching its maximum darkness at 12:14; will conclude at 1:36 p.m. For 4 and a half minutes the Sun will set 79 percent.
• The umbra (total darkness) will also occur in Durango, Durango (12:14); Torreón (12:19) and Monclova (12:24).
