Liverpool Dominates Manchester United with 3-0 Victory at Old Trafford

by time news

Liverpool went to Old Trafford to beat Manchester United 3-0 in a match from the 3rd round of the Premier League. The Reds now have nine points at the top of the Premier League, alongside Manchester City, and for the third time in their history, they have not conceded any goals in the first three matches of the top flight in England (7-0).

On the other hand, Manchester United has only three points and heads into the international break again with Erik ten Hag ‘under pressure,’ after the ‘Red Devils’ management gave the Dutch coach another chance, who ended the last season in eighth place.

Liverpool had great efficiency in their shots on target but could have ended with an even more significant result given the number of missed opportunities.

On United’s side, there were also chances to score, with Zikzee having a special duel with goalkeeper Alison, which was won by the Brazilian.

Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot were starters for Manchester United, while Diogo Jota was a starting option for Arne Slot at Liverpool.

The standout player of the match was Luiz Diaz, who scored two goals. The Colombian, former FC Porto player, made it 1-0 in the 35th minute. Casemiro made a poor pass, Liverpool came out on the right side, and Salah crossed into the area for the Colombian winger’s precise header.

Luiz Diaz made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute, in a play very similar to the first: Casemiro losing the ball in United’s midfield, a quick recovery, the ball to Salah who this time set up for a first-time shot from the former FC Porto winger.

The 3-0 was scored by Salah, in yet another quick transition from Arne Slot’s team, after a lost ball, this time by Mainoo, in the 56th minute. Szoboszlai ran with the ball, released it at the right moment for Salah’s first-time shot, scoring his 15th goal against Manchester United. The Egyptian seems to enjoy scoring against the Red Devils.

Liverpool could have scored early, in the seventh minute, but Trent Alexander-Arnold’s goal was disallowed for offside by Salah.

Salah and Diaz are starting the season strongly: the Egyptian has three goals and three assists in three matches in the English League, while the Colombian has scored four goals.

Liverpool remains 100 percent victorious and equals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. Meanwhile, Manchester United has one win and two losses.

In other matches that took place today, Chelsea, with Portuguese Pedro Neto starting, drew 1-1 against Crystal Palace and continues without a win this season at Stamford Bridge.

In a London derby, Chelsea stumbled again at home, after suffering a setback against the four-time champions Manchester City (2-0) in their opener, with João Félix coming on in the second half, precisely for Pedro Neto, and Renato Veiga, called up for the national team for the first time, remaining on the bench.

Senegalese forward Jackson gave the ‘blues’ the lead in the 24th minute, but Eze equalized at the start of the second half, in the 53rd minute.

Chelsea now has only four points from three rounds, while Crystal Palace got their first point and avoided a 14th consecutive defeat against the ‘blues.’

With this draw for the ‘eagles,’ Southampton and Everton are now the only teams still without points in the Premier League.

In the north of England, Newcastle recorded their best start to a season since 2011 (two wins and one draw) by beating Tottenham at home, 2-1, marking the first defeat for the ‘spurs.’

Swede Isak scored the decisive goal of the match in the 78th minute, but the ‘man of the match’ award went to Tino Livramento, a 21-year-old right-back, a young England international, but son of a Portuguese father and a Scottish mother.

Earlier, Barnes had given Newcastle the lead in the 37th minute, but Brun, in an unfortunate own goal, leveled it in the 56th minute.

With seven points, Newcastle joined Arsenal and Brighton in the group of second-place teams, while Tottenham remains in the middle of the table with four.
