Liverpool qualified for their first FA Cup final since 2012, thanks to their victory against Manchester City (3-2) in the semi-finals at Wembley.
Six days after their dramatic Premier League draw (2-2), the Reds and the Citizens still offered a magnificent show this Saturday, April 16, at Wembley. This time it was in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, with a win for Liverpool (3-2).
A one-sided first period
Unlike last week, Liverpool was not in the reaction. The Reds instead chose the “penalty” mode, leading 3-0 at halftime.
French defender Ibrahima Konaté was the first to shine, scoring from a corner his third goal in three matches (9th). Sadio Mané then scored twice. The Senegalese striker was first rewarded for his pressing, by tackling the ball at the feet of goalkeeper Zackary Steffen, usual substitute (17th). Then, the African champion came to conclude a beautiful collective movement with Thiago Alcantara and Trent Alexander-Arnold, slamming the volley ball (45th).
The Mancunian awakening
Suffocated in the first period, the Citizens caught their breath on returning from the locker room with the reduction of the rapid gap of Jack Grealish, ideally served by Gabriel Jesus (47th, 3-1). The Brazilian was then disgusted by his compatriot, goalkeeper Alisson, decisive twice against him.
At the end of the match, Mohamed Salah had the opportunity to kill the suspense just before Bernardo Silva revived him, thanks to a percussion from Riyad Mahrez, right side (90th, 3-2).
Faced with Mancunian waves in added time, the Reds have turned their backs and will challenge Chelsea or Crystal Palace for their first FA Cup final for 10 years.
