The Liverpool winger, Luis Dias, will be absent for about two months and will actually return to activity only after the World Cup break. The 25-year-old Colombian, who injured his knee, does not require surgery, but will miss the Reds’ next 10 games, including against Manchester City at home in six days’ time.
Dias was injured yesterday (Sunday) in the 3:2 loss to Arsenal and was replaced by Roberto Firmino in the 42nd minute. He left the stadium on crutches and Jurgen Klopp spoke of the great concern of his injury. The winger will not need surgery, but will miss Liverpool’s three remaining Champions League group stage games as well as games in the Premier League and League Cup.
Dias arrived at Liverpool from Porto for close to 50 million euros last January and was an immediate success. This season he managed to score 3 goals in 8 games.
As far as Liverpool is concerned, of course this is a heavy blow, which is added to a particularly bad start to the season. Jurgen Klopp’s team has collected only 10 points from a possible 24, won two games out of 8 and is 14 points behind Arsenal at the top (and a game in excess).
