English Liverpool suffered a heavy defeat in the Europa League, at home and among its fans, on Thursday evening, from the Italian club Atalanta.
Liverpool lost 0-3, on a night that the Reds fans did not believe, which put them in a real European dilemma, close to being eliminated from the tournament.
German coach Jurgen Klopp sparked controversy when he decided to start the match without a number of his main stars, namely Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Hungarian Dominik Soboszlai, Colombian Luis Diaz, and Scottish Andy Robertson.
Klopp’s unexpected decision angered a number of the team’s fans on social media, and they considered that the absence of the stars was the reason for Atalanta’s 1-0 lead in the first half, which made the task easier in the second half.
Italian striker Gianluca Scamaca scored two goals for Atalanta, and Croatian Mario Pasalik scored the third goal.
Klopp tried to correct the situation by bringing in Mohamed Salah, Soboslai and Robertson at the beginning of the second half, but Atalanta expanded the score to achieve a historic victory at Anfield Stadium.
