Liverpool Triumphs Over Milan with Dominant 3-1 Victory in Champions League Opener

by time news

Liverpool got off to a strong start in the Champions League after a convincing win against Milan in both clubs’ tournament debut. It was a 1-3 match played at San Siro this Tuesday. Colombian Luis Díaz was on the bench and came on in the 68th minute.

In the first half, Milan surprised Liverpool by taking the lead in the scoreline around the 3rd minute of the game with Christian Pulisic, who, on a quick transition, grabbed the ball and unleashed a right-footed shot to beat Allison Becker.

After falling behind on the scoreboard, Liverpool woke up, took control of the ball, and dominated the match. Around the 17th minute, Mohamed Salah warned the hosts with a powerful right-footed shot that hit the crossbar of the goal guarded by Mike Maignan.

Just a few minutes later, Liverpool equalized with Ibrahima Konaté, who leaped in the area to head in a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Approaching the half-hour mark of the match, Salah again missed a chance when Cody Gakpo took a first shot and the rebound left by Maignan saw the Egyptian hit the post.

Before the end of this half, Liverpool took the lead with Virgil van Dijk connecting with a header from a right-side corner kick in a play where the defender outjumped everyone.

In the second half, the English side struck again until the 67th minute in a great counterattack orchestrated by Gakpo, which Szoboszlai finished off with a first-time shot after a pass from the Dutchman.

With the match practically settled, Arne Slot sent Colombian Luis Díaz onto the field, but the Colombian had no dangerous opportunities as Liverpool focused on keeping possession and letting the minutes pass.

With this victory, Liverpool sits third in the Champions League table and will face Bologna next at Anfield.
