Los Angeles-based singer Lizzo is facing a mounting controversy as an attorney representing three dancers who previously worked with her revealed that his firm is investigating at least six additional complaints against the artist. The allegations include claims of a sexually charged environment and failure to pay employees.
Employment lawyer Ron Zambrano, who is representing the three former dancers, Arianna Davis, Noelle Rodriguez, and Crystal Williams, stated that the new complaints involve individuals who toured with Lizzo or worked on her reality show, “Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.”
Last week, Lizzo was initially hit with accusations of sexual harassment, creating a hostile work environment, and weight-shaming. The three dancers claimed that they were forced to touch a performer at an Amsterdam strip club during a tour party, while the weight-shaming allegation involved a dancer with an eating disorder.
In addition, another dancer alleged that Lizzo’s dance captain, Shirlene Quigley, made inappropriate comments regarding employees who engaged in premarital sex, shared explicit sexual fantasies, simulated oral sex, and discussed the virginity of a tour member. Zambrano revealed that his clients believe Lizzo was aware of the complaints against Quigley.
Marty Singer, the attorney representing Lizzo, dismissed the lawsuit as “specious,” while the singer herself denied the allegations, referring to them as “sensationalized stories” and expressing her disappointment.
Zambrano stated that some of the new claims might be legally actionable, but it is too early to make definitive statements. Lizzo has not yet commented on the latest allegations.
In conjunction with the controversy, it was announced that Lizzo’s scheduled headline performance at Jay-Z’s Made in America festival in Philadelphia was canceled. However, despite the negative publicity, Lizzo’s sales, streaming, and airplay have reportedly not been affected.
The fallout from these allegations marks a challenging period for Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson. As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the singer’s reputation will be impacted and if any legal actions will ensue.
