He Senate of the Republic approved this Tuesday afternoon two loans for more than US$244 million, which will be used to support the mobility project and road safety and for the execution of a management program Solid waste in Greater Santo Domingo, respectively.

The first loan submitted by the Executive Branch is with the French Development Agency (AFD) for EUR$190,132,142, equivalent to US$200 million, for what would be the Metro extension from Santo Domingo.

The loan, which was approved in the Chamber of Deputies on September 4, was approved in a single discussion and had 18 votes in favor and 8 against.

Likewise, the members of the Upper House approved another loan with the Inter-American Development Bank (BID) for US$44.2 billion for the execution of the comprehensive and sustainable solid waste management program in Greater Santo Domingo.

Like the previous one, the piece was submitted by the Executive Branch and was approved in the Chamber of Deputies in the session of September 4.

Officials and opponents accuse each other

Los senators of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and the Force of the People (FP) refused to vote for the loans and they criticized the current administration for playing double standards, since, as they stated, when they were in the opposition they launched strong criticism of the Government’s debts.

Iván Lorenzo, of the PLD, called “Government rubbish“, while Dionis Sánchez, from the FP, expressed that it makes no sense to loan further.

However, Santiago Zorrilla, from the PRM, defended the credits because he considered that the Metro project is a work that will bring benefits, while his colleague, Ramón Pimentel, from Montecristi, said that some of the debts of this Government are to pay the who took the past steps.
