The National Elections Commission has informed the High Court that the local council elections will be conducted as planned.

The Election Commission said this when the petition filed by retired army colonel WMR Wijesundara was taken up for hearing today (13) demanding the issuance of an order invalidating the arrangements for the local council elections.

On this occasion, Attorney General Saliya Peiris, who appeared in the forum on behalf of the Election Commission, said that the local council elections will be held on time as planned.

The counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioner informed the court that some further amendments should be made in the petition.

As another petition filed in this matter is to be taken up for consideration in the High Court on the 18th, Advocate Romesh De Silva requested the High Court to consider this petition on that day.

Based on this, the panel of judges has ordered to adjourn the consideration of the said petition till the 18th.
