Job Description:
Police area Gotland is looking for external officers for its local police area who have personal maturity and can work independently as well as in collaboration with others. The work involves the development of experiences and contributions towards increasing safety and reducing crime on Gotland. Police region Stockholm consists of Stockholm County and Gotland. The responsibilities of the police area Gotland includes a local police area, intervention and crime prevention activities, investigation groups, support and service while the investigation section and police area office fall under the police area level.

The role of external officer requires a responsible officer around the clock who is designated under the direction of the officer on duty. The external commander should lead and plan the external operations of LPO Gotland, engage in collaboration and motivate staff towards set goals, understand the crime prevention mission and activity planning and comprehensively work against the local problem picture. The officer is expected to take responsibility for maintaining the staffing of the external commander function and making far-reaching first-hand measures.

Qualifications:
Valid Swedish police exam
At least 2 years of experience working as a police officer in external service
Relevant experience in a managerial function such as countermeasures as a group leader or external commander
Experience in investigative work and a good understanding of the legal chain
Completed national trainings in basic operational management, police chief training, external management training, missing person investigation (EFP) or equivalent trainings (preferable)
Worked in other departments/units in the Police Authority (preferable)
Other related education/experience (preferable)

Police region Stockholm consists of Stockholm County and Gotland. Police area Gotland includes the entire island geographically from Fårö in the north to Sundre in the south.

Police area Gotland includes a local police area. At the police area level there is the investigation section and a police area office. Within the local police area, there are intervention and crime prevention activities, investigation groups as well as support and service.

Job description

In each police area there must be a responsible external officer around the clock. Under the direction of the officer on duty, the outer commander must lead the intervention activities within the police area, but also have a close collaboration with the station commander and duty FU leader. The external commander is responsible for ensuring that far-reaching first-hand measures are taken and quality is ensured and that the case is handed over according to the delegation order. As an external commander in the Gotland local police area, you should have a good understanding of the crime prevention mission and activity planning and work actively against the local problem picture. You will be an important partner both internally and externally. A large part of the assignment is to coach and motivate staff towards set goals. You will also have delegated work environment responsibility for the current work shift.

Examples of tasks:

  • As an external commander, you lead and plan the external operations at LPO Gotland, with an emphasis on leading the employees of the tour team in the daily work but also during special operations.
  • In your role as external commander, you constitute a key function in the chain of command and are the most qualified resource for external work management both in the event of rapidly arising events but also planned interventions against the local problem picture.
  • The external command function involves shift work at all times of the day and all days of the year. As an external commander, you are expected jointly and together with other external commanders to take responsibility for maintaining the staffing of the external commander function.
  • The work includes both internal and external collaboration.
  • Lead search for missing person (EFP)
  • Lead the work at the crime scene
  • Be responsible as far as possible for far-reaching first-hand measures to be taken and quality assured
  • Cooperate in the event of crisis and disturbances in society

Qualifications

This is an opportunity for you who have:

  • Has a valid Swedish police exam
  • Has at least 2 years’ experience as a police officer in external service
  • Has relevant experience of working in a managerial function, e.g. had countermeasures as group leader or external commander
  • Experience from investigative work and a good understanding of the legal chain
  • It is advantageous if you also have:

  • Completed national trainings such as basic operational management, police chief training, external management training, missing person investigation (EFP) or equivalent trainings
  • Worked in other departments/units in the Police Authority
  • Other education/experience that the authority deems relevant to the function, e.g. training in leadership

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
In the role of external commander, it is important that you have personal maturity and are stable as well as have good communication and relationship-building skills as you will have many contact points both internally and externally. In your role, you will collaborate with various external authorities and other actors. It is also important that you have the ability to see both the parts and the whole of the police work based on the local problem picture and have the ability to lead other employees in the everyday work but also during operations. It is important that you can be flexible in your approach as both tasks and the intensity of the work vary.
