Around five in the afternoon this Sunday, the precipitations related to Tropical Storm Idalia began in the Artemisa municipality of Güira de Melena.

According to reports at the municipal Meteorological Center, it is expected that between 50 and 100 mm of rainfall will fall.

As Playa Cajío is a vulnerable area in the face of events of this type, the assets of the population and of economic interest are insured, reported the Temporary Work Group.

Likewise, the conditions for the evacuation of the population are provided, if necessary.

Meanwhile, in Alquízar, about 90 tons of sweet potatoes and plantains were harvested with a view to minimizing damage to agriculture from the heavy rains, reported Delmis Millo Santos, First Secretary of the Party in the town.

“The status of the 14 generator sets was also checked and they were enabled with the necessary fuel. Chlorine is available for the sources of water supply and flour for making basic basket bread,” he pointed out.

Millo Santos delved into the sanitation actions in the Paseo area, the place where the municipal wastewater system rests.

The members of the Temporary Work Group also arrived at Playa Guanimar. There they talked with the resident and summer population, who are already getting ready to safeguard their belongings in the upper area. Measures are also taken to protect the boats.

Given the heavy rains, the conditions are created at the Rubén Martínez Villena Pedagogical School, the municipality’s evacuation center, to receive the vulnerable population.
