Kannur: Locals caught the Popular Front attackers who tried to forcefully close shops in Payyannur and handed them over to the police. The locals came together and faced the Popular Front activists who came on bikes and threatened the locals. About eight people in four two-wheelers entered the shops in Payyannur and shouted threats.

Locals, including porters and auto-rickshaw drivers, subdued those who threatened them by force. Five Popular Front assailants fled from the spot. At the same time, the lack of protection by the trade leadership for open shops has led to widespread protests among traders.
