(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 16 – “We are in a particular historical moment, that of a great reform” with “law 227 of 2021, the enabling law on disability, thanks to which we will change the perspective of taking care of the person with disabilities”. This was said by the Minister of Disability, Alessandra Locatelli, speaking in the Municipality of Bologna at a meeting with associations dealing with disabilities. Among the priorities, for Minister Locatelli, “the assessment of the condition of disability must be modified. I want to have a direct impact on de-bureaucratization and simplification by eliminating repeated visits for review – assures Locatelli – because after one year, two years, three years a person who has a proven disability, it is not possible that he should repeatedly appear before a commission. It is humiliating.” “We also want to introduce the life project – explains Locatelli – which is a great revolution because starting from the wishes of the person, as the UN convention says, we can build a path and address the issues and the services must be activated by the territory, not by the person disabled person who must act in a hundred thousand directions”. As for autism, “early diagnosis, research and management from a healthcare point of view have grown. We also need to activate targeted social paths to enhance the skills of each person – concludes Locatelli -. This is another great revolution : start thinking no longer in terms of welfare but to enhance the skills of each person”. (HANDLE).
