Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission regarding the ongoing quota movement in the country. Kamal Uddin Ahmed said, the merit-based national culture should be developed keeping the rights and inclusion of all at the center. In this case, it is important to provide proper coordination and adjustment of all matters related to quota.
This call was made in a statement of the commission on Thursday (July 11) afternoon regarding the ongoing movement on the issue of quota.
In a statement, the National Human Rights Commission said that the ongoing quota movement of students has attracted public attention and the National Human Rights Commission has closely monitored the overall situation. The Human Rights Commission has applauded the student movement for being non-violent and peaceful so far. However, at the same time, the commission has earnestly called upon the students to respect the decision of the Supreme Court on the issue of quota.
The National Human Rights Commission gives importance to the formation of merit-based and intellectual society at the national level. For this, it is necessary to keep a well-thought-out and well-considered recruitment system going. The student society of this country has been playing the role of vanguard in the movement for the realization of rights for ages. Through great sacrifices and 9 months of bloody struggle, Bangladesh achieved its glorious independence and students made a valuable contribution to it.
Students have been conducting anti-quota movement since July 1. Normal life is being disrupted due to the blocking of roads and highways by the agitating students. There are severe disruptions in the transportation of goods and treatment of patients. As a result of which public suffering has reached an extreme level.
In this regard, the chairman of the National Human Rights Commission. Kamal Uddin Ahmed said, in the effort to create a knowledge-based society, proper evaluation of talent is necessary. On the other hand, the quota system has issues related to employment rights, rights of the disabled and other disadvantaged groups and national consciousness. The commission feels that a sustainable solution can be found through logical coordination of students’ demands in the implementation of the 2018 circular. The decision taken by the Supreme Court taking the overall issue into consideration is a significant step in resolving the crisis. Yesterday’s interim direction of the Supreme Court deserves full faith and respect and at the same time raises a bright prospect of resolving the issues that have arisen. It is the path of our national life to have full faith and respect for our great Constitution and the decisions of the Supreme Court. In this situation, it is advisable to wait with patience and tolerance for the agitating students and behave responsibly.
The Commission calls upon the agitating students to take a sincere, judicious and benevolent stand by all parties in an effort to maintain a normal life. The Commission, having full confidence in the decision of the Supreme Court, appealed to the students to return to the classrooms, maintain a suitable learning environment and patiently take necessary measures to alleviate the public grievances.
He said, the commission believes that the normal environment of education will return soon and class-exams will be held regularly.
