The FNSEA seemed clearly targeted during this attack. An investigation for destruction by fire and violence in meetings was opened after the assault on the night of Sunday to Monday of a farmer, local official of the FNSEA, the majority union in the profession, the Nantes prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday.

“During the night from Sunday to Monday, a local farmer responsible for the JA 44 (Young Farmers of Loire-Atlantique) and FNSEA 44 networks was physically attacked and his spraying equipment and a building deliberately set on fire”, said these two agricultural unions. in a statement released Monday.

“Significant means of investigation” deployed

According to them, “anti FNSEA inscriptions” appeared “on the roads close to the exploitation”. “Beyond this event, it is our members, our network that we are deliberately attacking,” they added in their press release.

According to the public prosecutor of Nantes, Renaud Gaudeul, the victim farmer filed a complaint on Tuesday for these facts. The investigation was entrusted to the Loire-Atlantique gendarmerie group and “significant means of investigation” were deployed Monday and Tuesday at the scene, according to the prosecution.

On X (formerly Twitter), the Minister of Agriculture, Marc Fesneau, expressed his “total solidarity” with the farmer. “Investigations are beginning, justice will pass. And the State will be at the side of those who, because they feed us, because they suffer daily from the ignorance, cowardice and intolerance of the times and of a minority, are victims of aggression. , he wrote on Monday evening.

The president of Pays de la Loire, Christelle Morançais, for her part hoped in a press release on Tuesday for an “extremely firm response”. “If the motives for the offense are not, at this stage of the investigation, clearly established, we can only worry, more generally, about the climate of terror that reigns from the violent small groups which, like the Uprisings de la Terre, carry out real “punitive operations” against farmers targeted for their commitment to profitable and nourishing French agriculture,” she added.

The prefect of Loire-Atlantique went to the farm on Tuesday to show the farmer “his full support and assure him of the strong mobilization of the gendarmerie”, said the prefecture.
