New Delhi: General elections can be announced any time now. Two important reasons are being given behind this. One reason for which is the end of the ongoing tours of the Election Commission to know the current situation of the states with the aim of conducting elections peacefully across the country. Secondly, two vacant seats of Election Commissioner in the Commission have to be filled. The Commission, under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, made its last visit to Jammu and Kashmir on March 13. After this, the Commission does not have to visit any other state in the country. Keeping this in view, general elections can be announced any time in the country. General elections can be announced any time on or after March 15. With this, the Model Code of Conduct will be implemented in the country. Earlier on March 14, the high level committee constituted under the chairmanship of former President Ramnath Kovind has submitted its report to President Draupadi Murmu in the one country, one election case. In which it has been said that elections should be held simultaneously across the country. In such a situation, speculations are being made that along with the Lok Sabha elections, assembly elections can also be held in Jammu and Kashmir. The Supreme Court has also said in the instructions given on December 11 last year that along with giving full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible, assembly elections should be held here by September 30, 2024.
In such a situation, it is expected that along with the Lok Sabha elections, assembly elections can also be held here. Sources also say that during the Commission’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir on March 13, it found the environment favorable for holding assembly elections in the state, barring some areas. The Union Home Ministry is also continuously monitoring the situation. So that as per the law and order here, he can give green signal for holding elections.
