Thiruvananthapuram: UDF delegation led by Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan will meet the Governor demanding that the Lokayukta Amendment Ordinance not be signed. The UDF delegation will visit the Governor at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday, January 27 at 11:30 am.

Opposition leaders VD Satheesan, Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala, PMA Salam, Mons Joseph, AA Aziz, CP John and G Devarajan are in the delegation.

The Leader of the Opposition had written to the Governor on Tuesday, January 25, asking him not to sign the Lokayukta Amendment Ordinance. It was after this that the UDF leadership decided to meet the Governor in person and demand this.

At the last cabinet meeting, the state government decided to pass an ordinance to reduce the powers of the Lokayukta. But the allegation is that the state government is preparing for the amendment without much discussion in the front and in the cabinet.

Section 14 of the Lokayukta Act states that public servants should be removed from office if they are found guilty of corruption. KT Jaleel and KK Ramachandran resigned last year under this Act. The importance of the Lokayukta will disappear when the Chief Minister is empowered to overrule orders in judicial proceedings.
