London: London Mayor Sadiq Khan has said that racist and Islamophobic attacks have been launched against him by Conservative Party leaders because he is of Pakistani origin. He said that all these attacks have got the support of PM Rishi Sunak. In an interview with Pakistan’s Geo News, he said, ‘There is no doubt why false and dangerous claims were made by Suella Braverman, Lee Anderson, Liz Truss and other senior leaders against him and British Muslims.’ Anderson had said that Sadiq Khan was being controlled by ‘Islamists’. Whereas Braverman had said that Britain is being run by Islamists. Khan said, ‘It is unfortunate that the Conservative Party is promoting to me the talk of being controlled by Islamists. These allegations are lies and slander about Muslims. He said, ‘If I had not been a Pakistani and a Muslim, these allegations would never have been made. It is very dangerous and completely false to say that London is being Islamised, Muslims are taking over London and London has become Londonistan. He said, ‘These allegations are being made to create fear about Muslims in non-Muslim communities.’

Sadiq’s ‘Muslim card’ before elections

Sadiq Khan asked why Muslims were not being accepted. He said, ‘Muslims have integrated themselves into the society. We have learned the language, we go to schools and universities for education. We work and pay taxes. Then we wonder what it will take for us to be accepted.’ Sadiq Khan is the leader of the opposition Labor Party. He is making such statements when Mayor elections are about to be held in London. He had demanded from PM Rishi Sunak to call the comments of Conservative leaders Islamophobic, but he had refused.

Sadiq Khan also lashed out at Rishi Sunak

Sadiq said that we condemn anti-Jewish sentiments. But when British Muslims are attacked, no one calls it anti-Muslim or Islamophobic. Sadiq Khan said, ‘Even a week after Anderson’s comment, the government did not call it Islamophobic. If there is a problem with the word Islamophobic then it can be called anti-Muslim. Rishi Sunak should know better. He said that such statements against Muslims and Pakistanis are meant to scare the voters.
