London intends to start developing hypersonic weapons in connection with the presence of hypersonic missiles in Russia. Tony Radakin, Chief of Defense Staff of Great Britain, stated this. His words are quoted on Friday, January 7, on its website by the British newspaper The Times.

“We (them, missiles – Ed.) no, but (they) should be with us, “said Radakin, who gave his first interview since taking this post in November 2021.

“Phenomenal increase in the activity of Russian submarines”

In an interview with the publication, Tony Radakin stated that “over the past 20 years, there has been a phenomenal increase in the activity of Russian submarines,” as well as the submarine operations of the Russian Navy. He added that in the light of the programs implemented by Moscow, it is not only about the tasks performed by submarines. A system of “submarine cables running all over the world” could be at risk, the British chief of defense said.

“It is through them that most of the world’s information and traffic is transmitted,” Radakin stated. When asked if the destruction of cables “would be considered an act of war,” he replied, “Potentially, yes.”

Tony Radakin also said that he presented the British government with potential options for “retaliatory actions” in response to a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine.

RF salvo launch of Zircon missiles

On December 24, 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia had launched a salvo launch of Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles. “The tests were carried out successfully, flawlessly,” Putin said, pointing to “a significant step in increasing the security” of the Russian Federation.

Russia has repeatedly carried out single launches of this missile. So, surface tests were carried out, in particular, in July 2021, as well as in December, November and October 2020. In October, the first test launch of the Zircon took place from a submerged position.
