A person suspected of being involved in the October 16 attack in Brussels has been arrested in the Spanish city of Málaga. This was reported by the Spanish Policía Nacional. An international arrest warrant had been issued against the man by the Belgian court for drug trafficking, arms trafficking, money laundering crimes and membership of a criminal organization.

According to Spanish police, the man and Abdesalem Lassoued, the perpetrator of the terrorist attack, are jointly involved in “activities linked to organized crime.” It is not yet clear to what extent the man would also be involved in the terrorist attack.
The man was arrested in Benahavís, a municipality in the Spanish province of Malaga, where he hid under a false identity and with false documents. Police officers also searched his home and seized documents, electronics and a significant amount of money. “The investigators are examining all this material to determine exactly what connection the two people had with each other,” the Policia Nacional said.
The investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Comisaría General de Información, and the provincial brigades of Madrid and Malaga, and is led by the public prosecutor’s office at the Audiencia Nacional, the national court responsible for the most serious crimes in Spain. The suspect appeared before the Spanish investigating judge on Friday, who decided to place him under an arrest warrant.
Abdesalem Lassoud, a Tunisian Muslim extremist, shot dead two Swedish football fans with a machine gun last Monday. A third man was injured. The attack took place at Saincteletteplein in the center of Brussels.
Police shot Lassoued, for whom Tunisia had issued an extradition request, on Tuesday morning, October 17. In the investigation into the attack, four suspects were also arrested in France, two of whom had to appear before the investigating judge on suspicion of participation in a criminal terrorist organization.
