About 1.5 million people gathered this Saturday (5) evening in a park on the outskirts of Lisbon for the vigil of World Youth Day (WYD) presided over by Pope Francis, announced the Vatican, citing an estimate by the Portuguese authorities.

Organizers expected up to a million pilgrims from all continents to attend this grand vigil, one of the highlights of the world’s largest gathering of Catholics, which will be followed by a final Mass on Sunday morning.
