Rosalyn del Carmen Mancero Fray, 41 years old, a practicing lawyer, was appointed by her community as the second justice of the peace of the San Antonio de Bayushig parish in the Penipe canton, province of Chimborazo.

After the training given for two consecutive days by the provincial counterpart of the Justice of the Peace system, from the Provincial Directorate of the Judiciary Council (CJ) of Chimborazo, the eight candidates appointed the new judge, in compliance with the established regulations.

Ángel Campos, provincial counterpart of the peace justice system of the Provincial Directorate of the CJ, reported that the candidates were trained in the auditorium of the Bayushig Parish GAD. Among other topics, they learned in theory and practice how to resolve internal conflicts in their community through conciliation.

Conciliation has four steps: listening, dialogue, deciding and agreeing; This is what the judges of the peace appointed throughout Ecuador do daily in their hearings, hence the emphasis on this aspect, Campos noted.

Likewise, the participants analyzed the conflicts that arise in the population and those that the judge can resolve according to his competence. It should be remembered that the judge has certain capabilities and is designated to resolve internal conflicts in his parish, community or neighborhood, according to article 189 of the Political Constitution of Ecuador.

In the training they learned in theory and practice how to resolve conflicts.

The designated justice of the peace will attend on Sundays throughout the day in the office located in the Duchicela school, appropriated by the Parish GAD and equipped by the CJ. According to the regulations established by the CJ, the judge will attend eight hours a week, serving her community as a volunteer, that is, she does not receive any remuneration, consequently, the services she provides are also free.

Irene Andrade, provincial director of the CJ of the province of Chimborazo, reported that this year approaches have already been made with the authorities of the Pallatanga canton and the Huigra parish of the Alausí canton, to appoint a justice of the peace in these territories.

In Pallatanga, the socialization meeting was held last Monday, February 26, and the leaders expressed their express desire to have a justice of the peace in their territory, so the next meeting to designate candidates for justices of the peace will be held on Monday. March 12.

“The objective is for citizens to be able to resolve minor conflicts in their own jurisdictions and not go out to the city to start trials for minor cases. This prevents the justice system from receiving more cases and the state from saving money. The most important thing is that justices of the peace resolve conflicts through dialogue so that the inhabitants of the parish continue to live in harmony,” said the Director. (eleven)
