Mark Goddard, renowned for his role as Major Donald West in the 1960s science fiction series “Lost in Space,” has sadly passed away at the age of 87, according to an announcement made by his wife on Friday.

The highly popular series, which comprised 83 episodes and aired from 1965 to 1968, left an indelible mark on pop culture. Phrases like “Danger, Will Robinson” became deeply embedded in the collective cultural consciousness. Due to its immense success, the series was later adapted into a film, in which Goddard made a cameo appearance. More recently, it was rebooted in 2018 with a new cast.

Evelyn, Goddard’s wife, shared in a heartfelt social media post that her husband succumbed to pneumonia on October 10th, while being cared for at a Massachusetts hospice home. She disclosed that prior to his passing, he had been receiving treatment at a rehabilitation center. However, doctors discovered that he was in the final stages of pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic and irreversible lung disease. Despite the devastating news, Goddard was fortunate to receive exceptional care at the Pat Roche Hospice Home, where he was able to pass away peacefully and with dignity. His children and Evelyn had the opportunity to express their love and say their final farewells. In her post, Evelyn expressed her deep gratitude for having spent 33 years with a loving, gentle, and handsome man who never failed to bring laughter into their lives.
