Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, opera singer Afag Abbasova, who has been performing in Italy with great success in recent years, once again charmed the audience with her skill. This time she performed on her native stage in Baku, making her debut in the title role of the opera “Tosca,” Day.Az reports.

The team of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater presented Giacomo Puccini’s opera “Tosca” on the stage of the Opera Studio in Baku.

“Tosca” has always aroused special interest among opera fans in Azerbaijan, and this was the case on the day of the next show. This time, Honored Artist Anton Verstandt (Baron Scarpia) also made his debut in the play together with Afag Abbasova (Floria Tosca).

Along with them, the honored artists of Azerbaijan Farid Aliyev (Mario Cavaradossi), Jahangir Gurbanov (Cesare Angelotti), Aliakhmed Ibragimov (Spoletta), as well as Mahir Tagizadeh (Sacristan), Igor Yadrov (Scharrone), Kanan Rahmanzadeh (Jailer) shone on the stage.

The director of the performance is Honored Artist Hafiz Guliyev, the conductor is Honored Artist, Chief Conductor and Musical Director of the theater Eyyub Guliyev, the choirmaster is Honored Artist Sevil Gadzhieva.

After the performance, Honored Artist Afag Abbasova shared her impressions with Trend Life.

“Many years ago I was offered to perform the part in this opera, but then I thought that I was not ready yet. Years passed, and now the time has come, I performed the part in the opera Tosca. I worked long and hard on the character, even in my last “I also rehearsed my visit to Italy. Before preparing the part, I carefully studied the plot of the work, worked on the image and character of my heroine,” said the honored artist.

Afag Abbasova admitted that she was very pleased with the positive feedback from the public.

“After the show, professionals and admirers of opera art noted that we presented the performance at a high level, and the image created on stage suits me. Wonderful music, an image characterized by emotionality, gave the audience bright emotions. I would like to congratulate the entire creative staff of the production and express my gratitude to the management of the theater for your support,” said Afag Abbasova.

Let us note that “Tosca” is one of the best works of opera classics. The opera premiered in 1900 in Milan, and to this day the performance is very popular and is in the repertoire of the best opera houses in the world.

The plot of the opera takes place in Rome at the very beginning of the 19th century. “Tosca” is a fusion of love affairs and political adventures from the time of Napoleon’s first conquests. The noble, romantic Cavaradossi and the evil, treacherous Scarpia are fighting for the heart of the main character.
