Love of lesbian, the indie group par excellence closed its Epic Journey Towards Nothingness (VEHN) tour in style at the Wizink center in Madrid. He did it with a very vindictive Santi Balmes who, throughout the concert, reviewed his long journey in music with the help of his entire band: Julián Saldarriaga, Jordi Roig and Oriol Bonet, and with anthems that marked an entire generation.
Hymns like ‘Niña Imantada’ were not missing during the evening, a song that caused real madness in the audience, something that the band already knew. “Many people have it tattooed and we love it,” said Santi Balmes.
The band also spoke about their beginnings and how they decided to name the group (‘Love of lesbian’) at a time when they were totally misunderstood and today, however, they are acclaimed and chanted by a Wizink that was packed.
Balmes also took advantage of several moments of the concert to send very powerful messages about today’s society. He did not hesitate, for example, to vindicate the atrocities that are being experienced outside in the war and asks that “I hope the authors of so much pain pay for the crimes.”
Afterwards, with his shirt off like a true 80s rockstar, he put the audience in his pocket while he sang his hits. After establishing himself as a Spanish indie star, Santi decided to release Leiva. He did it almost towards the end of the concert to perform ‘Incendios de Nieve’ with a spectacular guitar solo and, amid screams from the audience, the artists announced a future collaboration on their next album.
Reaching the end of the concert and after several farewells, the band performed ‘John Boy’s Fan Club’ and ‘1999’, which were not missing for the last encore. As a final culmination, as the band’s vocalist said, they could not forget that song that meant so much to everyone who was there. That song that provided a soundtrack to the lives of so many and that closed that Wizink at the end of the tour with ‘There where we used to scream’.
