Chennai: Tamil Nadu is likely to receive rain for 4 days due to the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, the Meteorological Department said.

In this regard, Director of Chennai Meteorological Center P. Chenthamarai Kannan has said in a press release:

A low pressure area persists over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the eastern parts of the Indian Ocean along the equator. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and strengthen as a deep depression during the next 24 hours. It will continue to move in west-northwest direction and strengthen as a depression over southwest Bay of Bengal on Jan.31 and may reach Sri Lankan coast on Feb.1.

Due to this, on January 29 (today), there may be moderate rain at one or two places in the North-East coastal districts, adjoining districts, Puducherry and Karaikal. Coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, adjoining districts, Puducherry and Karaikal areas may experience moderate rain on January 30 and 31. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur at most places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on February 1.

Chennai and suburbs will be cloudy for the next 2 days.

Jan. 40-45 km/hr over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, equatorial Indian Ocean on 29th (today). At a speed of 55 km. Cyclonic winds are also possible. Therefore, fishermen should not visit these areas.
