Lowest Migrant Level in 4 Years at US-Mexico Border – Italy-World

by times news cr

(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, AUGUST 16 – Illegal border crossings between the United States and Mexico fell in July to their lowest levels in nearly four years, the latest indication that the Biden administration’s sweeping asylum restrictions are reshaping migration trends, according to federal data. Border agents counted 56,408 illegal entries last month, a 32% drop from June and the fifth straight month the figure has fallen, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. U.S. border officials attribute the turnaround to executive actions Biden announced in the spring that effectively blocked access to the U.S. asylum system for migrants entering illegally. The Mexican government has also stepped up enforcement this year at the request of the Biden administration, arresting a record number of migrants attempting to transit through the country on their way to the U.S. (ANSA).
