Free of any contract since leaving Tottenham, the 30-year-old striker is returning to São Paulo.

Brazilian international Lucas Moura, a former winger for Paris SG and Tottenham, signed a contract at the age of 30 until the end of the year at São Paulo FC, his training club, which announced his return on Wednesday.

«Lucas is back with the tricolors!“, Can we read in a press release from the club which sports white, black and red on its jersey.

Free of any commitment since the end of his contract with Tottenham at the end of July, Lucas Moura joins another experienced South American international, Colombian James Rodriguez, 32, whose recruitment was announced on Saturday.

Before spending more than ten years in Europe, the Brazilian won the Copa Sudamericana in 2012, the South American equivalent of the Europa League, the last major trophy for Sao Paulo FC.

«I remember everything I experienced here (…), it’s very moving to be back“said the former Parisian, quoted in the club press release.

Arrived in 2013 at PSG for more than 40 million euros, Lucas Moura proved too fickle to establish himself as a starter in a team already full of stars, at the start of the QSI era, two years after the takeover of the club by a Qatari sovereign wealth fund.

In 2019, Lucas Moura joined Tottenham, where he notably scored a heroic hat-trick in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Ajax, before his side lost in the final to Liverpool.
