The Lucas Awards awards gala, the largest event for Cuban video clips, will be held on Monday at the Astral theater in Havana, where the best video clips made this year on the island will be announced.
The galas of the 23rd edition of the event began this weekend without public attendance due to health protocols due to the coronavirus pandemic and, as always, have raised high expectations among filmmakers and artists.
The nominees for the Lucas Awards were announced on November 28 in the Arco de Cristal room of the Tropicana cabaret.
The jury, made up of specialists Joel del Río, Gretel Garlobo, Yuris Nórido, Lester Hamlet, Michel Hernández, Michel Pascual, Lied Lorain and Antonio González, recognized the best works presented in categories such as Best Popular Dance Music Video, Traditional Folklore, Music Trova, Best Choreographic Video, New Artist, First Film, Animation, Editing, Photography, Making Of, Art Direction, Costumes, Production.
It also included for the first time the category of Best Home Made Video due to the restrictive measures due to the coronavirus and had a large number of works presented.
Among the directors with the highest number of nominations are the laureates X Alfonso, Joseph Ros, José Rojas, Leandro de la Rosa, who have been awarded in several previous editions at the Lucas Awards.
In the popular music section, whose winner is selected by the public through voting, videos by Leoni Torres, Divan, Yomil y el Dany, Alex Duval, Yoyo Ibarra and Nero, among others, stand out.
On this occasion, the Lucas organizers received 525 audiovisuals, a record number in the history of the popular television program directed by director Orlando Cruzata.
