Lucid is planning three affordable electric cars

by time news

Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson has already talked in the past about a Model Y competitor that would hit the market in late 2026 at prices under $50,000 – the Lucid Air electric large sedan currently starts at $70,000, but it’s available also in different versions. over $200,000. It was clear that this mid-range SUV (as a counterpart to the Tesla Model 3) would be accompanied by a corresponding sedan.

The “CarBuzz” portal now claims to have learned from Derek Jenkins, Senior Vice President of Design and Brand at Lucid Motors, that the mid-range lineup should specifically include three vehicles. “They’re going to be younger vehicles, they’re going to be sportier vehicles,” says Jenkins. “CarBuzz” controls a station wagon after the conversation with Jenkins, which took place, according to a photo, on the edge of Lucid Gravity.

“We certainly explored it. The Air is a good format, but I don’t think we can future-proof it, at least not now,” Jenkins says of the Lucid combo. “Everyone, myself, all the engineers, are big fans of station wagons. I’ve owned a lot of Audi wagons over the years and I love this stuff. But do you know? It’s really a dying segment, even in Europe. Enthusiasts think performance wagons are great, but there’s still no concrete evidence of growth. I don’t see us getting out of here at all.”

Instead, the design and brand manager suggests that the third ominous mid-range model could go in the off-road direction: “The off-road area will continue to change and develop. There will be products that try to meet the edge of off-road driving, such as: B. Rock Crawling, and then there are the normal crossover products,” says Jenkins.

However, “CarBuzz” sees the statements as more of a sentiment – speculating about a stand-alone sports car like a coupé or convertible, maybe even a small pickup or a Sapphire version of the mid-range sedan.

With the Air, Lucid Motors has introduced a highly efficient premium electric sedan to the market that has received a lot of media attention. However, sales are quite slow, which is why the company has repeatedly reduced prices and introduced cheaper drive versions. With the large Gravity E-SUV, the second model with this technology is about to be launched on the market. With billions in investments from Saudi Arabia, Lucid developed the vehicles and is also pushing ahead with its factory projects. In addition to manufacturing in Arizona, Lucid now has a factory in Saudi Arabia. It is not yet known where and in what sizes the mid-range models will be built.
