Sussex County convenience store sells $20,000 Mega Millions ticket

A third-prize Mega Millions ticket worth $20,000 was bought for Tuesday’s lottery drawing at a convenience store in Sussex County.

The lucky ticket was bought at Food Bag on Route 23 in Montague, lottery officials said. It matched four numbers plus the Mega Ball.

Tuesday’s winning numbers were: 3, 18, 27, 29 and 64. The Mega Ball was 1 and the Megaplier was 2X.

While no one across the country hit Tuesday’s $114 million jackpot, four second-prize tickets matching five numbers were bought. Tickets sold in Connecticut and Texas are worth $2 million each because the winners spent an extra $1 for the Megaplier option. A ticket purchased in Arizona is valued at $1 million and one sold in California is worth $713,143.

California lottery prizes vary depending on ticket sales and number of winners. They differ from the fixed second prizes offered in other participating states.

The odds of a $2 ticket winning the jackpot by matching five numbers and the Mega Ball are 302,575,350 to 1. Players have a 1 in 12,607,306 chance of a ticket matching five numbers but not the Mega Ball and winning at least $1 million.

Mega Millions drawings are held on Tuesday and Friday in 45 states, along with Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot has rolled back to an estimated $20 million with a cash option of $10.1 million. A jackpot-winning ticket worth $842 million was sold in Michigan for Monday’s drawing.
