The German airline Lufthansa may suspend flights to Ukraine, this option is being considered, a company representative told RBC.

“Lufthansa is following the situation in Ukraine very closely. The possibility of suspending the provision of services is being considered. But no decision has been made yet,” Lufthansa said. The decision to suspend flights depends on “a number of factors,” the airline added.

Earlier, Strana.ua reported that insurance companies sent out a message to aircraft owners about the termination of insurance coverage for all aircraft in Ukraine next. The publication’s source said that because of this decision, “not a single plane will take off or take off from Ukraine from about the middle of the day on Monday.”

On Sunday, the plane of the SkyUp airline was unable to land in Kiev due to the lessor’s ban on entering the airspace of Ukraine, the air carrier reported. The flight from Portugal had to be sent to Chisinau. In addition, before that, the Dutch airline KLM announced the termination of flights to Ukraine due to the threat of a Russian invasion, De Telegraaf reported.

As SkyUp later reported, on February 12, insurance companies informed Ukrainian air carriers that they would cease insurance of aircraft for flights in Ukrainian airspace within 48 hours. As a result, aircraft owners demand the speedy return of aircraft to the EU, the report said.

“The current situation requires a decision at the state level. Now we are working together with government agencies to find solutions to the problem,” said Dmitry Seroukhov, CEO of SkyUp. The company has temporarily stopped selling tickets for flights from 14 to 16 February.
