Lufthansa cancels more than 900 flights due to lack of staff

Berlin: Lufthansa, Europe’s largest airline and German national carrier, is canceling more than 900 summer services. Lufthansa has announced that it will scrap a number of flights in July, as airlines struggle to survive on staff cuts after Kovid.

A total of 900 services are expected to be suspended in Germany and Europe. Passengers flying from Munich and Frankfurt will be most affected by the cancellation. Overall, five percent of Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays flights are no longer operational, giving customers only more limited options for weekend flights. Lufthansa’s two subsidiaries, Eurowings and Swiss, will reduce their services this summer.

Eurowings is set to cancel hundreds of flights in July. At Covid’s heights, when travel restrictions were tightened, many who worked at airlines and airports were fired or forced to look for other jobs.

Despite bail from the government, Lufthansa has launched a massive job-cutting program that has cut more than 30,000 full-time jobs during the epidemic. But now it’s summer in Europe and there has been a huge increase in the number of air passengers due to the easing of Kovid restrictions. But Lufthansa says the lack of staff at the airport and air traffic control is creating a major crisis.
