Lufthansa Suspends Flights to Tehran Due to Middle East Tensions

Airlines belonging to the⁤ German Lufthansa Group have suspended flights to Tehran until August 8 due to the escalating tensions in the Middle East, according to‍ Day.Az, citing TASS news agency.

“Based on an updated⁢ safety analysis, the Lufthansa Group is once again adjusting its flights to the Middle East. All flights to Tehran have been cancelled⁤ until August​ 8 inclusive,” the airline stated in a statement.

Previously, Lufthansa ‍announced the suspension⁢ of flights to Tel‍ Aviv until August 8 and to Beirut until August 12. The airline is offering passengers affected by ‌these measures‍ the option⁢ to cancel or rebook their flights free of charge.

The tensions escalated following the​ assassination of Hamas political‌ bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh ⁤in an⁢ Israeli‍ strike on his⁤ residence in Tehran on July 31. Iran accused Israel of carrying out the attack⁣ with the support of the⁢ United States. In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei threatened severe retribution‌ against Israel.
