Israel has announced a retaliatory strike following deadly shelling from Lebanon. Now Lufthansa is reacting.
Following the deadly rocket attack from Lebanon on a village in the Golan Heights annexed by Israel, Lufthansa is suspending its flights to the Lebanese capital Beirut. The flights have been suspended until August 5 due to the “current developments” in the Middle East, a spokesman in Frankfurt am Main said on Monday. This applies to Lufthansa and its subsidiaries Eurowings and Swiss Air, which normally fly to Beirut.
The French airline Air France and its subsidiary Transavia France have also suspended their flights. However, both will initially only be operating no flights on Monday and Tuesday, a spokesperson said. On the night of Monday, the Greek airline Aegean had already cancelled a flight to Beirut. The Lebanese airline Middle East Airlines said it had “rescheduled” a number of its flights on Sunday and Monday for insurance reasons.
On Saturday afternoon, a rocket fired from Lebanon hit the football field in the village of Majd al-Shams. According to Israeli sources, at least twelve children and young people between the ages of ten and 16 were killed. Read more about this here.
Israel and the US attribute the attack to Hezbollah. The Iranian-funded militia denies responsibility for the rocket fire. The Israeli security cabinet gave the green light for a military response against Hezbollah.
