The communist avant-garde Luigi Nono always asked that his sophisticated compositions be performed not in philharmonic and opera halls, even the most prestigious ones, but in factory floors and university auditoriums. So he would certainly have approved that for the Russian premieres (very late, frankly speaking) of his compositions, not a philharmonic hall was chosen, but a venue with an industrial past – the Mutabor nightclub. It opened four years ago on the site of the former compressor station of a ball bearing plant.
It is in this brutal and at the same time festive atmosphere – the concert is timed to coincide with the club’s fourth anniversary – on May 26, for the first time in Russia, two large and iconic works by Nono will be performed live. Their names and compositions of performers are eloquent.
