The athlete of Guatemalan origin, Luis Grijalva managed to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Guatemalan finished in fourth position in the men’s 5,000-meter flat competition, with a time of 12:55:88, surpassing the mark established by the International Olympic Committee.

It should be noted that, over the weekend, Grijalva achieved a historic fourth place in the World Athletics Championships in Hungary.
In this competition, Grijalva needed to achieve a time of less than 13:05:00 to qualify directly for next year’s international multi-sport event. The athlete finished fourth in the 5,000-meter final at the Letzigrund Athletics Stadium, being the only Latin American in the competition and meeting the requirements for Paris 2024.

Grijalva stated that he was “proud of the fourth place achieved, but the dream of awarding a medal to Guatemala is still intact, and it is getting closer.”
The 2024 Paris Olympic Games will take place between July 26 and August 11, 2024 in the French capital.
Luis was close to surpassing the best mark he has achieved in his career, which is 12:52.97 achieved in Italy, in June 2023.
It should be noted that Guatemala is currently suspended by the International Olympic Committee, so each national athlete who qualifies for the next edition of the Olympic games will not be able to wear the country’s colors.
