“In the last few years, the volume of investments (both foreign and domestic) has been decreasing, which does not have the best effect on the work of the economy,” Lukashenka’s press service quotes Lukashenko’s statement as saying.

He admitted that it is not worth counting on Western investments.

“In the current geopolitical circumstances, it is difficult to count on the arrival of Western investors in the Belarusian economy. Let’s focus on others: Eastern, Asian, African and so on. And we need to work with Westerners, we don’t need to reject them.”

At the same time, Lukashenka said, it is necessary to work “first of all with our investors”.

On November 28, 2022, Lukashenka approved the parameters of the forecast of social and economic development of Belarus for 2023, according to which investments in fixed capital should grow by 22.3% (in 2022, they decreased by 19% to 27.84 billion rubles). According to the National Statistical Committee, in January-May 2023, they amounted to 11.4 billion rubles. In the first quarter, foreign investors invested 3 billion dollars in the real sector of the economy, which is 11.76% less than a year earlier (3.4 billion). The main investors were residents of Russia – 44.8% of the total volume of all investments (a year earlier – 37.7%), Cyprus – 28.8% (22.9%), the Netherlands – 3.8% (8%). Foreign direct investments amounted to 2.6 billion dollars (a decrease of 13.3%). In 2022, according to Belstat, foreign investors invested $7 billion in the real sector of the Belarusian economy. The amount of foreign investments was 19.5% less than in 2021 ($8.7 billion).
