Lukashenko asked the EU to create a humanitarian corridor for 2 thousand migrants

by time news

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, during a conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, promised to facilitate the return of a large part of the refugees to their homeland. However, the EU must create a humanitarian corridor for 2,000 people who are in a camp near the border with Poland. Angela Merkel allegedly pledged to negotiate with the EU authorities to organize such a corridor for Germany. All in all, according to the presidential press service, there are now about 7 thousand refugees in Belarus.

According to the press secretary of the President of Belarus Natalya Eismont, according to the mechanism proposed by Mr. Lukashenko, the European Union is creating a humanitarian corridor for 2,000 refugees who are in the camp. “We undertake to assist (as far as possible and if they wish) the remaining 5 thousand to return to their homeland. And Angela Merkel, according to the agreements, will negotiate with the EU, including on the organization of a humanitarian corridor in Germany, ”she added (quoted by BelTA).

According to her words, Minsk fulfills its obligations. “Yes, unfortunately, only about 400 refugees agreed to return to their homeland. In total, to be precise, there are 374 passengers on the plane that departed today, mostly Iraqi citizens, ”said Ms. Eismont.

In total, today there are about 7 thousand refugees on the territory of the republic, she said. “Of these, at the border – in the so-called spontaneous camp – about 2 thousand people. And from 200 to 500 people, according to available information, are also on the border, but spontaneously, in other points. These are refugees whom the Poles tried to throw out of Poland by force after people had already penetrated there, ”said Natalia Eismont.

Yesterday, Alexander Lukashenko and Angela Merkel held their second telephone talks in a week on the migration crisis. Minsk claims that the parties agreed to solve the problem at the levels of Belarus and the European Union. Berlin said that the acting German chancellor has spoken out in favor of providing humanitarian assistance to migrants.

The migration crisis arose on the Polish-Belarusian border due to refugees from the Middle East who want to enter the European Union. Brussels accuses Minsk of deliberately creating a crisis situation. The USA, Poland and Great Britain are also blaming Russia for what is happening.
