A dominant performance from Luke Humphries saw him defeat Nathan Aspinall 2-0 on Monday, securing his place in the second round of the World Grand Prix in Leicester. The Premier league champion showcased both precision and power, overcoming a resilient Aspinall in a match marked by high-scoring finishes.

Humphries edged a closely contested first set 3-2, despite Aspinall briefly finding his rhythm with a notable finish of two treble 20s followed by a bullseye. However,Aspinall’s struggles with the double-in double-out format proved costly,allowing Humphries to capitalize and launch into the second set with a stunning 156 finish.
“It was a big game.Nathan is a fantastic player,” Humphries told Sky Sports. “He struggled to get in a few times and he let me in with that 156, which was a big shot there to take the game towards myself.”
Humphries ultimately closed out the second set 3-0,setting up a second-round clash with Poland’s Krzysztof Ratajski,who also secured a 2-0 victory over Germany’s Martin Schindler.
The first round also saw notable results, including a surprise 2-0 defeat for fifth seed james Wade at the hands of fellow Englishman Joe Cullen. England’s stephen Bunting, fresh off his sixth title of the season at the Swiss Darts Trophy, also advanced with a 2-0 win over Germany’s Niko Springer.
