President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) spoke this Saturday (14) on the phone with the president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, to ask for help in evacuating Brazilians who are trying to leave the Gaza Strip.

Currently, around 22 Brazilians who want to be repatriated are in the city of Fatah, on the border with Egypt, and are waiting to be able to leave. A plane provided by the presidency of the republic is waiting in Rome, Italy, to go to Egypt to pick up the Brazilians.

The forecast is that, as soon as they cross the border, the Brazilians will be accompanied by the Brazilian ambassador in Egypt to Arish Airport, where they will board the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) aircraft.

In the call, in addition to speaking with the Egyptian president about plans to withdraw Brazilians from Gaza, Lula also highlighted the importance of creating a humanitarian corridor for the exit of foreigners who want to return to their countries.

“Both agreed on the urgency of allowing humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. In this context, President Lula informed that Brazil must send, among other items, medical kits”, says Planalto.

“President Lula confirmed that Brazil, as president of the UN Security Council, will maintain tireless action to avoid an even greater humanitarian disaster and the spread of the conflict,” he added.

Earlier, Lula had spoken with the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, with whom he also spoke about the repatriation of Brazilians in Gaza.
