BRASILIA, April 5 (Xinhua) — Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva decided to create an inter-ministerial working group to analyze safety in educational centers, after a man killed four children with an ax on Wednesday in a nursery school in the town of Blumenau.
“The president was very dismayed by what happened in Blumenau and is following the development of what happened step by step,” explained the minister of the Presidency’s Communication Secretariat, Paulo Pimenta, according to the official “Agencia Brasil” report.
In statements from the Planalto Palace (headquarters of the Government), he specified that the group will be made up of the ministries of Education, Justice and Public Security, and Human Rights and Citizenship, and the General Secretariat of the Presidency.
This morning, a 25-year-old man entered a nursery school in Blumenau, in the southern state of Santa Catarina, and killed four children between the ages of 5 and 7, in addition to injuring at least three others.
The Civil Police reported that the perpetrator of the attack was arrested after turning himself in at the region’s police station.
It is the second similar attack in just over a week, after the 71-year-old teacher Elizabeth Tenreiro died on March 27 after being stabbed to death in a Sao Paulo school, an attack for which a 13-year-old teenager is being held. years.
In a meeting with ministers at the end of the afternoon, Lula da Silva called for a minute of silence for the victims.
