He stated this after being discharged this Sunday, after almost a week of hospitalization where he had undergone emergency surgery to drain a hematoma ‍on his skull.

“I need to feel comfortable for ‍at least 60 days or so. But I can go back to work normally. I will stay at home until Thursday in sao Paulo,” ‌said Lula, appearing unexpectedly at a press conference organized by his medical team at the Syro-Lebanese hospital in Sao Paulo.

Shortly before the president appeared at the press conference, wearing a hat to hide the bandage on his head, the team led by doctors‍ Roberto Kalil Filho and Ana ⁢Helena Germoglio reported that the president had been discharged from hospital.

Lula has recovered well and can resume normal work activities, but must avoid ⁢long-distance flights, the medical team stressed.

He is also expected to undergo a CT scan on ‍Thursday before returning⁢ to the capital, Brasilia.

Lula, 79, underwent emergency surgery early Tuesday morning to drain⁢ a hematoma on his skull, the ‍result of a domestic ⁢accident in October, when⁤ he⁤ fell ⁣in the bathroom of the Alvorada Palace and hit his head.

On Thursday, the president underwent‌ an ⁣operation complementary to the surgery to prevent further bleeding at the site. According to his medical team, after the surgery, the possibility of Lula having a new haemorrhage in the skull ⁢is “statistically insignificant”.

Lula said he‌ only realized the severity of what had happened to him after speaking to the medical team after Tuesday’s‌ operation.‌ “But I’m calm, I feel good,” he remarked.
