The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, returned home confident that he is in good health and can return to work normally. He stated this after being discharged this Sunday, after almost a week of hospitalization where he had undergone emergency surgery to drain a hematoma on his skull.
“I need to feel comfortable for at least 60 days or so. But I can go back to work normally. I will stay at home until Thursday in sao Paulo,” said Lula, appearing unexpectedly at a press conference organized by his medical team at the Syro-Lebanese hospital in Sao Paulo.

The president appeared at the press conference wearing a hat to hide the bandage on his head
Shortly before the president appeared at the press conference, wearing a hat to hide the bandage on his head, the team led by doctors Roberto Kalil Filho and Ana Helena Germoglio reported that the president had been discharged from hospital.
Lula has recovered well and can resume normal work activities, but must avoid long-distance flights, the medical team stressed.
He is also expected to undergo a CT scan on Thursday before returning to the capital, Brasilia.
Lula, 79, underwent emergency surgery early Tuesday morning to drain a hematoma on his skull, the result of a domestic accident in October, when he fell in the bathroom of the Alvorada Palace and hit his head.
On Thursday, the president underwent an operation complementary to the surgery to prevent further bleeding at the site. According to his medical team, after the surgery, the possibility of Lula having a new haemorrhage in the skull is “statistically insignificant”.
Lula said he only realized the severity of what had happened to him after speaking to the medical team after Tuesday’s operation. “But I’m calm, I feel good,” he remarked.
