President Lula (PT) affirmed this Monday (25) that gender and color will not be criteria for the election of the successor of Judge Rosa Weber in the STF (Supreme Federal Court). The Chief Executive has been under pressure from civil society and allies not to reduce the representation of women in the Supreme Court, which currently has 2 female judges and 9 men. There is also a campaign for Lula to elect a black woman to office.
Rosa will leave the Court on Thursday (28). She will turn 75 in October, the age limit for membership on the Court. “The criterion will no longer be that. I am very calm about it and I am saying that I will elect someone who can meet the interests and expectations of Brazil. Someone who can serve Brazil. Someone who has respect for Brazilian society. Someone who votes properly without voting through the press. Do you understand?” Lula declared.
