SÃO PAULO, Nov 1 (Reuters) – The president of the Brazilian Workers’ Party, Gleisi Hoffmann, confirmed on Tuesday that President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will personally attend the United Nations Climate Summit COP27, to be held this month in Egypt.

This was one of the wishes of Lula, who received an invitation from the Consortium of Governors of the Legal Amazon to be part of the group’s delegation at the summit. The date of the elected president’s trip is yet to be defined.

COP27 will be held between November 6 and 18, but the meetings of heads of state and other authorities are concentrated in the last week, starting on November 12.

The former Environment Minister, Marina Silva, said before Sunday’s elections that President Lula’s team intends to bring to COP27 a proposal to review the national goals for greenhouse gas emissions, including the intention to make more ambitious Brazil’s own goal.
