The elected president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvawished that “Christmas marks the beginning of the reconstruction of Brazil”, by toasting a message of “hope” one week after assuming the Executive who leaves Jair Bolsonaro.

“I want to wish a Merry Christmas to each and every one of the 215 million Brazilians. I know that unfortunately many families will have nothing to celebrate, because they suffer from hunger, unemployment, inflation and debts,” said the leader of the Workers’ Party (PT) on his social networks.

“I also know that this is a particularly sad time for hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to covid. And for so many others who lost everything because of the heavy rains that hit several states,” he added, referring to the deaths caused by the pandemic and climate change in Brazil, both issues minimized by Bolsonaro.

In another passage, Lula referred to the political polarization that is lived in the country, deepened during this electoral year: “It saddens me to know that many families will not be together to celebrate this Christmas, as every year, because they have been divided by the political hatred that has pitted parents against children, brothers against brothers”.

“But The message that I bring to each and every Brazilian is hope.. The hope that the majority of the Brazilian people deposited in the polls on October 30. The hope that makes us always move forward, despite all the obstacles,” he said.

“I want Christmas to be a time of reconciliation for families, and for Brazil to reconcile with itself. TI will work harder than in previous governments so that Christmas next year is better for everyoneespecially for those who need it most,” said Lula, who will take up his third term on January 1 after ruling the country from 2003 to 2010.
