Senator and former Chief of Staff Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI) said that the government of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) is still “crawling” and “didn’t say what came”. The statement was given in an exclusive interview with Young Pan News during the Lide Brazil Investment, an event that brings together authorities and businessmen in New York to discuss the country’s economic development. Questioned about the beginning of the PT administration, Ciro said that the government made “huge promises” to the population and that accelerated growth is needed to help the poorest. “We have a government that, from my point of view, is still in its infancy. Didn’t say what he came for. He made gigantic promises to the Brazilian population and is creating hopelessness in the people who believed in this government. We have to be responsible and ensure that our country has accelerated growth to help people, especially low-income people,” said Ciro.

At another point, the senator spoke again about the country’s political situation, saying that while some are trying to attract investment to Brazil, others want to close the country, which could compromise the economic future. “Our country today finds itself in a complicated moment in our politics. We are trying to open up our country to investment, make the country more competitive and some are trying to close Brazil down. I hope that doesn’t happen. In the coming years, we have the possibility of making our country a food, technology and energy center for the world”, continued Ciro. Finally, questioned about a possible support for the Lula government, the senator clarified that the PP, his party, will be in opposition to the government, noting that the acronym “does not believe” in the current administration. “We do not believe in this government. We have no synergy, no identity. We are going to oppose the government, not the country”, concluded the senator.
