The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT)

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has categorically stated in recent days that he does not intend to choose the new minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) based on identity criteria. The statement went down very badly within the Planalto and allies of the first magnitude felt uncomfortable. The recurring opinion is that he acted against the government itself and gave a platform to critics.

The column spoke to some members of the government and they all agreed that the statement was unfortunate. ”
He doesn’t have to choose,

but why say you won’t use this criterion?”

Still, another minister thinks the president should refrain from such comments. “It looks like Bolsonaro, as if he had something against equality,” he recalled. The minister himself claims to know that this is not the case. “Lula still doesn’t understand that we are not in 2003 and that any speech he makes is cut at the whim of Bolsonarism”.

A minister was deeply irritated by the president’s statement. “It’s like he’s not worried about parity,” she told the column privately. In the view of the important ally during the electoral period, the choice of the next ministers of the STF should be guided exclusively by equality. “Until women and blacks in the Supreme Court represent the same part of society, choices must be made”.

Part of the president’s allies do not agree and even find his statement that he is concerned about the competence of the chosen one absurd. “It’s as if blacks or women are not competent. If they are underrepresented and there are competent people, why not correct it?”, questioned a historic member of the PT.

Lula has not yet announced who is chosen, but as the column advanced,
