The Northern Arizona women’s golf team is poised for a strong showing at the NMSU Golf Iconic Classic after a solid first round, finishing at 2-under par and securing eighth place in the competitive field. Senior Nina Lukyanenko delivered a career-defining performance, setting the pace for the Lumberjacks and finding herself in contention for the individual title.
Lukyanenko’s Career Day Fuels NAU
Lukyanenko carded a remarkable 67 (-5), a new personal best, to lead all golfers at the tournament. Her round began with a par on the 11th hole during the shotgun start, immediately followed by a birdie on the 12th, establishing an early momentum. A steady stretch of seven consecutive pars demonstrated her composure, before a surge of four consecutive birdies on holes 2 through 5 propelled her to the top of the leaderboard. Despite a single dropped shot on the par-5 eighth, she rebounded with a final birdie on the 10th, solidifying her position.
“It was just a nice day, everything clicked, and I had a lot of fun,” Lukyanenko said, reflecting on her exceptional performance.
Lukyanenko currently shares the lead with Boise State’s Teal Matsueda and UC Irvine’s Katelyn Kong.
Solid Support from the Lumberjack Lineup
